Overview:

This full-day Nairobi wildlife and conservation experience offers a rare chance to enjoy a classic safari adventure without leaving the capital. The trip blends three unique highlights into one unforgettable day. First, you will explore Nairobi National Park, a remarkable wildlife sanctuary located right on the edge of the bustling city, where lions, giraffes, buffalo, and rhinos roam freely against the backdrop of skyscrapers. Next, you will visit the world-renowned David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where rescued baby elephants are cared for and rehabilitated before being reintroduced into the wild. Finally, the tour takes you to the Giraffe Centre, home to the endangered Rothschild’s giraffes, where you can interact with these gentle giants up close, feed them by hand, and learn about ongoing conservation initiatives.
This combination of wilderness, education, and conservation creates a perfect day for travelers who want to make the most of their time in Nairobi while still enjoying a true African safari experience.

Itinerary
Morning: Nairobi National Park Game Drive

Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or residence. After a short drive, you’ll enter Nairobi National Park, one of the few national parks in the world located within a capital city. Spanning over 117 square kilometers, the park offers a unique contrast: wild animals roaming free with the Nairobi skyline in the background.
During your game drive, your professional guide will lead you across open grass plains, acacia woodlands, and riverine habitats in search of the park’s diverse wildlife. Look out for the endangered black rhino, which Nairobi National Park is well known for protecting, as well as lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and numerous antelope species. The park also hosts more than 400 species of birds, making it an excellent spot for birdwatchers. The early morning hours are especially rewarding, as many animals are most active at this time.

Midday: David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage

After your morning safari, you’ll proceed to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a globally recognized conservation project that rescues orphaned baby elephants from across Kenya. Arriving at the orphanage, you’ll witness the young elephants being fed and playing in the mud under the care of their dedicated keepers. This is a rare opportunity to learn about the challenges these animals face in the wild, particularly from poaching and habitat loss.
You’ll also hear the inspiring stories of individual elephants, their journey of rehabilitation, and the careful process of gradually reintroducing them into protected areas in Tsavo National Park. The visit is both educational and heartwarming, offering guests the chance to directly connect with meaningful conservation work.
Afternoon: Giraffe Centre Visit
Your day continues with a visit to the Giraffe Centre, run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW). Here, you’ll meet the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, a subspecies once close to extinction but now slowly recovering thanks to conservation efforts. Standing on an elevated wooden platform, you’ll have the chance to hand-feed the giraffes, take memorable photos, and even experience their famously long, gentle licks!
The center also includes an informative exhibition hall and nature trail, where you can learn more about giraffe ecology and the broader conservation initiatives being undertaken to ensure their survival. This hands-on experience is a highlight for many visitors and provides a joyful yet educational way to conclude the day.
Return to Nairobi

After your visit to the Giraffe Centre, you will be transferred back to your Nairobi hotel or residence. The journey ends in the late afternoon, leaving you with lasting memories of an extraordinary day that combines game viewing, conservation learning, and close encounters with some of Kenya’s most iconic wildlife.
